Schoolgirl Sampler, made in 1842 by Mary Ann Nicholls, probably in Philadelphia, with a splendid array of colorful birds, moths, flowers and trees within a meandering strawberry border. The border and a horizontal band of flowers on a meandering vine below the hopeful verse are characteristic of Philadelphia. Slightly faded and toned, but sound, in an old bird’s-eye maple frame. |
